Learn The Truth About Sugar
Chances are you already know that too much sugar is unhealthy, but you may not understand why or how exactly to define what is "too much."
Did you know the average American is eating about 20 teaspoons of ADDED sugars per day? This doesn’t include natural sugars from food like fruit and milk. Even if you’re trying to cut down on your added sugar intake, there are likely many hidden sources in the food you eat every day.
Added sugars can be difficult to spot on food labels because they go by many names. And to make it even more confusing, sugar is often added to foods you wouldn’t expect, such as dressings, sauces, and soups. You may think you’re picking a health-conscious option by choosing items that are marketed as "healthier," but to account for the taste and texture difference, manufacturers boost the sugar content to make them more palatable.
Find out how much sugar you are likely consuming, what to look for on food labels, and which foods to avoid during a sugar detox by joining in on the conversation.
Help Your Body Heal Itself
You probably know, sugar is bad for your teeth. Most of us heard this frequently as children, and may even remind our children today every time they beg for a candy bar. While this is true, sugar can be harmful to more than just your teeth.
One of the reasons we like sugar so much is the huge surge of dopamine it provides. This feel-good chemical is released in the brain causing that ‘gotta-have-it’ feeling. As you eat more sugar, your body needs MORE to get the same good feelings. This brings the term "sweet tooth" to a whole other level.
Sugar causes inflammation in the body, and hence aggravates joint pain and encourages premature aging. Excess sugar also creates extra insulin which can cause your liver to become resistant and damage your heart. As you can see, you can NOT afford to ignore the effects sugar has on your health.
By doing a sugar detox, you allow your body a chance to rest and return to normal functioning.
